Aitutaki Punarei Culture Day Tour

Aitutaki Punarei Culture Day Tour

Check out the below tour from Trip Advisor for Culture Tour in Aitutaki: The lagoon is stunning, but Aitutaki is so much more and Ngaa and his team enabled us to really explore it: history, culture, politics, tradition, memory, myth. From the drama of the traditional welcome to the laughter of husking a coconut to the discussion on current affairs we were fully engaged and fascinated from the beginning. Because the group was small the day we visited, we were able to ask many more in-depth questions which helped us gain a greater insight. The passion and the dedication of Ngaa and the team is what makes this tour a must do. We were left with the feeling that a visit to Punarei Village is not so much taking a tour as making a connection - we made a relationship that has enriched us. Meitaki ma'ata.

Coconut Tours (ATV's) - Roratonga, Cook Islands

Coconut Tours (ATV's) - Roratonga, Cook Islands

From Trip Advisor: Highly recommend doing this! The quad bikes do take some strength to handle but I have never ridden one before (until then) and found it easy to get used to. Tour guide was friendly and helpful. Attraction takes 2.5hrs - two tracks, a swim and you get light refreshment at the end.

Cruising and Snorkeling in the Aitutaki Lagoon

Cruising and Snorkeling in the Aitutaki Lagoon

These waters are home to a large number of fish, making it a favorite spot for snorkeling or scuba diving. The view from here reveals a spectacular array of technicolour fish which can be seen close up by taking a Bishop’s Cruise (an experience in itself – the Aitutakians aptitude for song and dance and storytelling comes to the fore with a captive audience of sightseers.) Get your passport stamped on One Foot Island – step onto the first landing for the flying boats that flew the original Coral Route, go snorkelling in the clearest waters ever seen or simply spend a few hours slipping from sand to sea. A day spent hopping from the pure white motus sprinkled around the lagoon is one of life’s great memories.

Highland Paradise Cultural Centre- Day Tours - Roratonga, Cook Islands

Highland Paradise Cultural Centre- Day Tours - Roratonga, Cook Islands

From Trip Advisor: We were picked up by bus from our accommodation at Lagoon Breeze for for the Highland Paradise Cultural Centre where we we were to have dinner and a show. Highland Paradise has won several Cook Island tourist awards over the years and well deserved. It was a most enjoyable night and the meal of local food was excellent. Highland Paradise tells the story of Cook Island life prior to Christianity (which included cannibalism and human sacrifice), life after the missionaries arrived in 1821 and life since 1974 when the international airport opened and tourism began in earnest. The night was not cheap at $99 per head but was well worth it.

Highland Paradise Drums of our Forefathers Sunset Culture Show - Roratonga, Cook Islands

Highland Paradise Drums of our Forefathers Sunset Culture Show - Roratonga, Cook Islands

From Trip Advisor: One of the best cultural shows I have ever been to. Could not fault it at all. Pick up from our accommodation was prompt and from the minute we got on the minibus until the time we were dropped home we enjoyed the friendliness and professionalism (without the"over-the-top cliche) of the hosts and entertainers.

Matutu Brewery - Roratonga, Cook Islands

Matutu Brewery - Roratonga, Cook Islands

Below review is from Trip Advisor: I was thoroughly impressed by our tour of this brewery. It was highly engaging, even for a non-beer drinker. One of the owners was our tour guide and was open, genuine and so friendly. I highly recommend this tour and supporting this locally brewed beer when visiting the island. If you are able to recycle their glass bottles back to them, by dropping them back to the brewery, this will also greatly help their business.

Pa's Treks Day Tours (Nature Walk) - Roratonga, Cook Islands

Pa's Treks Day Tours (Nature Walk) - Roratonga, Cook Islands

From Trip Advisor: We did both the Nature Walk and (one of us) the cross-island hike. Pa is an excellent guide, and we learned much about Island plants, herbal remedies, Island history and local goings-on. Pa and Jillian are a great team. The Nature Walk is casual, informative and easy for anyone; the cross-island trek is quite strenuous and you must be prepared with proper walking shoes and medium fitness or better. Both are 4-5 hour trips overall, including pickup and dropoff at your accommodation, and a tasty lunch. Well worth the time and money, and you learn not to walk under coconut trees when the coconuts are a certain color...

They take you to some great sights & as value for money would recommend doing when in the Cook Islands.

The Vaka Cruise in Roratonga

The Vaka Cruise in Roratonga

Please see the review below from Trip Advisor for this Cruise in Aitutaki: It's as beautiful as it sounds and looks! A definite must do if you aren't already staying on Aitutaki. We did the cruise as a group of 12 (staying at Raro) so the transfers to the airport and flights over to Aitutaki were all inclusive. The buffet lunch was filled with local cuisines all prepared by the crew (they wake up super early to catch the fish!) Ali was our guide for the day,if you're lucky to get him on your tour, you'll have a blast laughing at all his jokes... (Ali... you're a clown!) Aitutaki is simply breathtaking... The day ended way to quickly and as a newly engaged couple, my fiance and I have found our honeymoon destination. Visited January 2015

Wet and Wild Aitutaki Boat Tour

Wet and Wild Aitutaki Boat Tour

Below you'll find a recent review from Trip Advisor on this tour company: The best day ever, great food, great snorkelling and 3 hours swimming with a pod of whales. Quinton was a great host, who knows his way around Aitutaki lagoon and beyond. A life changing experience for my family and a day we will always remember as the best activity in the Cook Islands. As this was our second trip to Aitutaki I think I can say confidently that Wet and Wild are the best provider for a fun filled day of adventure. Visited November 2014

Koteka Winery - Roratonga, Cook Islands

From Trip Advisor: Wow we drove up the rugged pathway through jungle type vegetation to find a wee shed surrounded by empty wine bottles..Sign says toot horn, hmm we thought..dodgy?Well out comes a guy with a huge smile dressed very "island relax"mode.Come on in he welcomes...What a surprise.Inside is the slickest operation, vodka, wines, liquores and hundreds of vanilla pods. The perfume of vanilla was intense. We spent over an hour here being happily educated into vanilla growing, distilling and tasting. What a delight Dr Goerge was.The most knowledgeable person on growing fruits etc.We bought a packet of the fattest vanilla pods I have seen and yes got them thru Customs no problem.Watch for the hand written sign on road to Muri!!Stop and call in!
